Overview

The Student Services Community Involvement Group (SSCIG) is a parent advisory council designed to provide parents with a forum to provide input regarding the special education programs within a particular school district. In 2000, the Massachusetts legislature enacted a law requiring each school district to maintain a SPED PAC. Any member of the school district’s community may be part of the SSCIG. Membership is not limited to parents of children with special needs. A SSCIG does not advocate for individual students, but instead, is intended to foster continuous improvement in special education.

Mission

The mission of SSCIG is to work towards the understanding , respect , support, and appropriate education for all children with special needs in our community.

  • Promote communication and programs within the community to encourage understanding, respect, acceptance and inclusion of children with disabilities.
  • Promote and support an innovative educational environment where children with disabilities have equal access to educational opportunities and a school and community environment where all children are encouraged to reach their full potential.
  • Promote a network for parents of children with disabilities and provide a forum to share information and discuss matters of relative interest and concern regarding our children.
  • Collaborate with the school community to continually improve the educational and social interaction opportunities available to children with disabilities within the Murdoch community.

Training

We will be having a free workshop on Creating a Vision from the Federation for Children with Special Needs on our March 26th meeting date. It will run from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.

Creating a Vision: Vision Training provides an opportunity for parents to answer some key questions and from those answers, write their own inspiring vision for or with their child. In this workshop parents will share their vision for their child with a partner and then take their vision and break it down into skill categories which can be used as an integrated goal in the IEP.

There are three ways to register for this workshop:

1. Contact Marybeth Bush

2. Call the Federation at 617-236-7210 or in Massachusetts toll-free at 800-331-0688.

3. Register on line at the Federations website www.fcsn.org
